The modern age where information technology — computers, the internet, and digital systems — drives communication, work, education, and daily life.

World Wide Web Public Availability
The decade of the 1990s.
Digital Literacy
The ability to use digital tools effectively, including navigating the internet, evaluating online information, and engaging safely in digital environments.
Connectivity
A global network of devices and people linked through the internet, enabling instant communication and collaboration.
Automation & AI
A core concept where machines and algorithms increasingly perform tasks with minimal human input, reshaping industries and decision-making.
Data-Driven Society
An IT era concept where decisions in business, healthcare, education, and governance are heavily influenced by data analytics and real-time information.
IT (Information Technology)
Pertains to industry that involves computers, software, networking and other IT infrastructure to help relay information in modern-day living.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
A framework where Information refers to knowledge from reading/data, Communication refers to transmitting messages, and Technology refers to tools to gather information.
The Message
In the digital age, it refers to the content itself; creators own the rights to this content, such as bloggers (microblogs like Tumblr/Twitter) and vloggers.
The Messenger
The one who delivers the message, such as broadcasters.
IoT (Internet of Things)
The convergence of multiple technologies including wireless communication, data analytics, machine learning, and hardware like sensors and microprocessors in appliances and mobile phones.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
A major trend involving gear like VR headsets in gaming and tools like Oculus Rift.
Machine Learning
Also called Artificial Intelligence (AI); involves robots and talking computers using technologies like Face ID and A11 bionic chips.
Big Data
Information analyzed for insights to come up with better decisions, exemplified by applications like Waze that notify users of accidents and road hazards.
Everything on Demand
A trend where information for music, movies, and drivers is connected to mobile phone apps because of network connectivity.
Plagiarism
The act of presenting someone else’s work, ideas, or words as your own without proper acknowledgment.
Exploitation
Taking unfair advantage of people, resources, or situations for personal or organizational gain at the expense of others’ rights, such as child labor or digital exploitation.
Online Libel
A form of defamation committed through digital platforms where false and damaging statements about a person are published online.
Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175)
The legislation in the Philippines under which online libel is punishable.
Operating System
Software application that allows one to communicate with the computer system.
Web Hosting
Provides the technologies or services needed for a website to be viewed via the internet.
Copyright
A set of exclusive rights granted by a state to the creator of an original work, such as books, music, movies, or software.
Intellectual Property
A number of distinct types of intangible assets for which a set of exclusive rights are recognized, including trademark, patent, and trade secrets.
Metadata
Data that describes other data, essentially 'information about information,' identifying details like owner’s name, author, and date.
Patent
A set of exclusive rights granted by a state to an inventor for a limited period of time in exchange for the public disclosure of an invention.
Data Breach
The unlawful destruction, unauthorized disclosure, or access to personal data transmitted, stored, or processed.
Software Piracy
The unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted software, including cracking software or buying counterfeit CDs.
Trade Secret
A method, formula, device, or process that gives a business a unique competitive advantage, such as the Coca-Cola recipe or KFC spice blend.
Trademark
A distinctive sign used to identify products to consumers, such as the Nike 'Swoosh', McDonald’s Golden Arches, or the Apple logo.
Data Storage Units
The hierarchy of digital information measurement: Bit, Byte, Kilobyte, Megabyte (MB), Gigabyte (GB), Terabyte (TB), PetaByte, ExaByte, ZettaByte, and YottaByte.
