Hidden lines
A line type used to represent edges that are not directly visible in a particular view.
Center lines
Lines used to indicate the center of circles, arcs, and symmetrical features.
Isometric Sketch
A pictorial representation of an object in which all three dimensions are drawn at full scale rather than foreshortening them to the true projection.
Oblique Sketch
A type of sketch in which one face of the object is parallel to the viewing plane, and the other faces are at an angle.
Cabinet Oblique Sketch
A type of oblique sketch where the depth is drawn at half scale.
Perspective Sketch
A drawing that depicts an object as it appears to recede into the distance.
Multiview Projection
A system of projecting multiple views of an object onto different planes to represent it from different angles.
Dial Caliper
A measuring instrument with a dial indicator for precise measurements.
Geometric Constraints
Conditions applied to geometric entities that control their size, shape, position, or orientation.
Numeric Constraints
Numerical values that control the size or position of geometric entities.
Working Drawing
A complete set of drawings and specifications required to manufacture a product.
Tolerances
The acceptable range of variation in dimensions.
Auxiliary View
A view that is projected onto a plane other than one of the principal planes of projection.
Section View
A technique used to expose the interior features of an object by imaginary cutting through it.
Parametric Constraints
Constraints that use parameters to define geometric relationships.
Design Brief
A comprehensive document outlining all aspects of a design project.
Visual Design Elements
Elements used to convey aesthetic qualities separate from function: line, color, value, form, shape, space, and texture.
Visual Design Principles
Rules and guidelines for organizing design elements: balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, proportion, unity and economy.
Decision Matrix
A structured method for evaluating multiple options based on specific criteria.
Technical Report
A formal document that communicates the findings, analysis, and conclusions of a technical project.
Group Norms
Established guidelines for how a group operates and interacts to achieve its goals.
Degrees of Freedom
The number of independent parameters that define an object's position and orientation in space.
Assembly Constraints
Rules or restrictions applied to components in an assembly to define their relative positions and motions.
Additive Process
A modeling method where the final shape is created by adding basic solid forms like cubes and cylinders.
Subtractive Process
A modeling method where the final shape is created by removing or cutting away material from a solid block.
Break Lines
Shortened lines that indicate that a portion of an object is not shown in its entirety.
Section Lines
Lines used to indicate the surfaces that are cut by a section plane.
Extension Lines
Lines that extend from an object to show the extent of a dimension.
Leader Lines
Lines that connect a note or dimension to a specific feature on a drawing.
Detail Views
A magnified view of a small area in a drawing to show intricate details.
Mean
The average of a set of numbers.
Median
The middle value in a set of numbers that has been sorted in ascending order.
Mode
The number that appears most often in a set of numbers.
