• follow by site (i.e. squamous cell carcinoma of eyelid)

• second most common skin cancer

• non-melanoma skin cancer

• gradual or rapid growth from UV exposure

• metastatic form

• sx include tender, bleeding

• persists with LN_²

basal cell carcinoma (BCC)

• follow by site

• most common skin cancer

• gradual growth from UV exposure

• skin color or red, raised or flat

• bleeding, tender

• persists with LN₂

• treatment: for superficial bcc or scc in-situ:

  • mohs

  • excision (exc)

  • electrodesiccation and curettage (ED&C)

  • brachytherapy

  • field tx

  • mohs and exc have best cure rates

malignant melanoma (MM)

• most dangerous form of skin cancer

• metastatic form

• rapid/growth from UV light exposure or with genetic origin

• usually flat or raised over time

• can go from brown to black/charcoal asymmetrical configuration

• treatment: exc, sentinal lymph node bx required if pass certain depth

actinic keratosis (AK)

• precancerous, precursor to scc

• crusty or scaly features, recurring

• treatment: LN₂ vs field tx (efudex, carac, imiquinod, picato, ect) vs photodynamic therapy (PDT)

seborrheic keratosis (inflamed) (SK)

• benign growth of the skin

• can go from tan to dark brown

• stuck on papule flat or raised

• treatment: LN₂ if bothersome, shave removal if big

seborrheic dermatitis (SD)

• red, itchy, scaly scalp/brow/perioral area

• treatment: topical ketoconazole shampoo or cream for daily use as maintenance and acute topical steroids use (lidex solution, desonide cream, etc.)
