Wellbeing
A good or satisfactory condition of existence. characterised by health, happiness, prosperity and welfare.
Quantitative indicator
Indices that are easily measured and can be stated numerically, such as annual income or the number of doctors in a country.
Qualitative indicator
Subjective measures that cannot be calculated or measured e.g indices that measure quality of life, or describes living conditions.
Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
The value of all goods and services produced within a country in a given period.
Standard of living
A level of material comfort in terms of goods and services available.
Human Development Index (HDI)
Measures the standard of living and wellbeing by measuring life expectancy, education and income.
Life expectancy
The number of years a person can expect to live, based on the average living conditions within a country.
Ecological footprint
amount of nature we use to support our lifestyle.
Maternal mortality
The death of a women while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy.
Extreme poverty
A state of living below the poverty line ( us $1.90 per day), and lacking resources to meet basic life necessities.
Favela
A slum community in a Brazilian city.
Spatial variation/distribution
Difference observed (in a particular measure) over an area of the earth's surface.
Social
The ability to build and maintain healthy relationships, feel a sense of belonging.

How technology impacts an individual's overall wellbeing.

The link between the environment and health
Economic
The nations or regions economic health and the standard of living of its people.
Political
Effective governance and the opportunity to live and work in safety.
Explain why there are inequalities in more economically developed countries (MEDC)
Because of differences in wealth, education, job opportunities and social background. Some people earn more due to better jobs, while others struggle with low wages or unemployment.
