Reward Center

Network of brain structures mostly in limbic system that process pleasurable experiences + reinforces associated behavior

Pituitary/master gland

Located at base of the brain due to central/critical role in regulating hormone production + secretion throughout body and maintaining homeostatsis

Broca’s Area

Left hemisphere of brain in the frontal lobe, responsible for speech production/language processing with a critical role in forming grammatically correct sentences + coordination in muscles involved in speech

Broca’s Aphasia

Language disorder caused by damage to Broca’s Area which often results in stroke or brain injury + difficulty producing fluent speech/forming grammatically correct sentences + speech may be slow/effortful/characterized by shortened phrases or words

Wernicke’s Area

Left hemisphere of brain in temporal lobe, involved with language comprehension + understanding spoken/written language + interpreting meaning of words/sentences

Wernicke’s Aphasia

Language disorder caused by damage to Wernicke’s area resulting from stroke/brain injury, difficulty understanding spoken/written language + producing coherent speech but still has fluent speech

Prefrontal cortex

Located in the frontal lobe and is responsible for higher cognitive functions + executive functioning

Executive functioning

A set of cognitive processes that enable individuals to plan, organize, strategize, focus attention, regulate emotions, and manage time effectively
