Refraction
Occurs when a wave passes from one medium to another, involves a change in speed and usually a change in direction.
Diffraction
Occurs when a wave goes through a gap or passes boundary, the wave spreads out as it passes the gap due to huygens principle.
huygens principle
A theory saying every point on a wavefront is a source of new circular waves propagating in every direction.
Reflection
Change in direction of wave but does not involve changing medium.
Transverse wave
A wave that has oscillations perpendicular to direction of travel like mechanical wave on a string or light.
Longitudinal
Wave that has oscillations parallel to direction of travel like sound.
Plane Polarised light
Light oscillates in plane/direction direction only. It has been filtered.
When is there no turning effect on a lever
When counter clockwise and clockwise moments are equal.
What happens if 2 waves with phase difference wavelenght/2 superpose.
they interfere destructively.
