Point of view

The perspective or position from which the narrator tells the story.

First-person narrator

A narrator who is a character in the story, uses first-person pronouns (I, me, my), and allows the reader to hear their thoughts and feelings in a distinct voice, though their account may be limited or unreliable.

Third-person limited narrator

A narrator who is not a character in the story, uses third-person pronouns (she, him, they, theirs), and reveals the thoughts and feelings of just one character.

Third-person omniscient narrator

An all-knowing narrator who is not a character in the story, uses third-person pronouns, and can relate the thoughts and feelings of any character in the story as well as insights no character possesses.
