Physical model
A scientific model that can be seen but not touched.
Conceptual model
A scientific model that cant be seen and touched.
Mathematical model
A scientific model consisting of equations and numbers.
Simulations
Computer-based scientific models.
Diagram
A labled drawing used as a scientific model.
Scientific investigation
A step by step process used to solve problems.
Independent variable
The variable representing the cause in an experiment.
Dependent variable
The variable representing the effect in an experiment.
Controlled variable
The variable that stays the same during an experiment.
Homogenous mixture
A mixture where components dissolve and are uniform.
Heterogenous mixture
A mixture where components do not dissolve and are un-uniform.
Suspension
A type of heterogenous mixture that does not mix.
Colloid
A type of heterogenous mixture described as dispense.
Solute
A solid substance present in a smaller amount in a solution.
Solvent
A liquid that dissolves the solute.
Diluted
A solution that contains more solvent.
Concentrated
A solution that contains more solute.
Unsaturated
A solution containing a lesser amount of solute.
Saturated
A solution containing the maximum amount of solute that it can dissolve.
Supersaturated
A solution containing more than the expected maximum amount of solute.
Specimen
The cells observed under a microscope.
Slide
The plate where we put the specimen.
Eye piece
Microscope component that contains the magnifying lens.
Scanning objective
Microscope objective providing the lowest magnification (4x) with color red.
Low power objective
Microscope objective providing a wide field of view (10x) with color yellow.
High power objective
Microscope objective ideal for observing (40x) with color blue.
Iris diaphragm
Microscope part that regulates the amount of light / controls it.
Condenser
Microscope component that focuses the light.
Coarse adjustment knob
Microscope control that moves the body tube.
Fine adjustment knob
The small knob that makes the view sharper.
Revolving nose piece
Microscope structure that holds the objectives.
Arm
Microscope component that supports the body tube.
Stage
Microscope platform where the slide will be placed.
Stage knob
Microscope control that moves the stage.
Stage clips
Microscope clips that hold the slide inplace.
Inclination joint
Microscope joint that allows the microscope to be tilted.
Base
Microscope structure that provides support for the microscope.
