What documents must you have on your person for flying?

pilot certificate, drivers license or photo ID, FAA medical certificate

Do pilot certificates expire?

No, they never expire, but you do have to keep up your currency requirements to use the privileges

What is a 1st class medical certificate required for and when does it expire

Required for ATP, expires at the end of the last day of the 12th month (6th month if older than 40)

What is a 2nd class medical certificate required for and when does it expire

Required for commercial, expires at the end of the 12th month for any age

What is a 3rd class medical certificate required for and when does it expire

Required for private/recreational/student pilot, expires at the end of the 60th month (24th month if older than 40)

What happens to a medial certificate if you are only using it for privileges lower than that class

Expiration requirements lower to that class. For ex, a 1st class certificate will allow you to use private pilot privileges for 5 years, but ATP privileges only for 1 year

For what types of aircraft is a type rating required?

Large aircraft (>12500lbs takeoff weight), turbojet powered airplanes, or powered lift (capable of vertical takeoff and landing)

What aircraft do you need additional training and a logbook endorsement from an instructor for?

Complex airplanes (have retractable landing gear, flaps, controlled pitch propeller)

High performance airplanes (>200 horsepower)

What are the requirements for a flight review?

You need one every 24 months, consisting of at least 1 hour ground and 1 hour flight time and a logbook endorsement. Checkrides for additional ratings count toward this requirement

Must have done at least 3 takeoffs and landings in the past 90 days (do not need to be full stop)

Currency requirements for night flight (1h after sunset to 1h before sunrise)

What are the requirements for notifying the FAA of address changes

Must do so within 30 days otherwise you cannot use the privileges of your certificate
