Alzheimer’s
a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, eventually making it hard to carry out simple daily tasks
Cerebral Palsy
a lifelong neurological condition caused by damage to the developing brain, affecting movement, posture, and muscle coordination, leading to issues like stiff muscles, poor balance, or uncontrolled movements
Epilepsy
a brain disorder causing recurring, unprovoked seizures, which are sudden bursts of abnormal electrical activity in the brain, leading to temporary changes in behavior, movement, or awareness, like jerking, staring, or confusion
Meningitis
the inflammation (swelling) of the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, often caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites, and sometimes non-infectious issues like cancer
Multiple Sclerosis
a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks myelin, the protective sheath around nerve fibers in the brain and spinal cord, disrupting nerve signals
Parkinson’s Disease
a brain disorder that slowly affects movement, causing Tremors, stiffness, slowness, and balance problems, because nerve cells in the brain stop producing enough dopamine, a chemical crucial for smooth movement.
Poliomyelitis
a contagious viral disease that invades the nervous system, potentially causing irreversible paralysis, muscle weakness, and breathing problems
Paraplegia
paralysis of the legs and lower body, typically caused by spinal injury or disease.
Quadriplegia
paralysis of all four limbs; tetraplegia.
Encephalitis
inflammation of the brain, usually caused by a viral infection or an autoimmune reaction
Cerebrovascular Accident
a sudden interruption of blood flow to part of the brain, causing brain cells to die from lack of oxygen, leading to potential long-term disability or death
Hemiplegia
paralysis of one side of the body.
Traumatic Brain Injury
damage to the brain from a sudden blow, jolt, or penetrating injury to the head, disrupting normal brain function and causing effects from temporary confusion
Concussion
a mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) from a blow, jolt, or bump to the head or body, causing the brain to move rapidly inside the skull, leading to temporary disruption of normal brain function, symptoms like headache, confusion, or dizziness, and requiring rest for recovery.
