the cultural standards that people use to decide what is good or bad, right or wrong. serve as ideals and guidelines.

Explain/define Societal Norms (including folkways, mores, and taboos + examples of each)
societal norms: the rules and expectations that guide behaviour within a soceity.
FOLKWAYS: the informal little rules that kind of go with saying. (not illaigle just wrong in soceity
MORES: fomalized as the states rules and laws of soceity. (guys dont have to wear a shirt at the beach but if they dont at work they will get fired)
TABOOS: never okay (killing someone… fine for self defense, but you cant later eat that person and get away with it.)

(a) everything is sacred
everything the creator made (humans, animals, plants, rocks, land) is invested with spirit and is therefore sacred
(b) everything is interconnected
connected within a social structure. (roles and responsibilities, past/present/future, community resource- specializes certain knowledge skills)
(c) everything is changing in recurring cycles

What is the 7 Generations teaching?
its to make a desicsion based on what is “now” is going to stay for 7 generations. many first nations use this to make decisions and actions. based on the idea that everything is sacred, a gift.
why do Christians specifically engage in intercultural learning and intercultural ministry?
we are called to love others and we can’t do that without talking to them
Christian faith implies a willingness to row together with fellow believers who have different cultures.
matriarchal and patriarchal
matriarchal: Women hold the power, they are in charge. (fist peoples culture)
patriarchal: men hold the power (20th century society kinds)
