Debulking in PrePreg
The process of compacting each ply individually, in sequence.
Bridging
Occurs when fibers in the laminate span across a radius or curve in a part, typically at corners.
Tool Sealer
A coat made up of polymers bonded to the tool surface, filling micro-porous sites.
Release Agent
A low-energy substance that allows for multiple releases and can be applied in solvent or solvent-free formulas.
PSIG
Pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, referred to as gauge pressure.
Vacuum
Pressure below PSIG, measured in inches of mercury (Hg).
Release Film/Peel Ply
The first layer against the uncured laminate, acting as a barrier between laminate and other layers.
Bleeder
A porous layer that absorbs resin and helps control resin bleed and the movement of air and gas.
Separator or Blocker Film Layer
A layer used to restrict or prevent resin flow, placed between breather and bleeder layers.
Breather
A continuous layer allowing air and volatiles to escape while maintaining contact with resin layers.
Bagging Film
Used as the vacuum membrane in vacuum bagging operations.
Sealant Tape
A rubberized tape or putty used to seal bagging equipment and bagging film.
Vacuum Port
A fitting that connects the vacuum bag to the vacuum source.
Vacuum Hose
A hose used to draw air, which must provide adequate airflow.
Wet Layup
A process where resin is applied to a mold before placing wet-pregged plies.
Vacuum Infusion
A process where dry-reinforcements are placed in the mold and resin is injected under vacuum.
Prepreg Layup
A method that uses a vacuum bag and requires cure in a regulated environment, involving debulking.
Thermoforming
A process of shaping materials using heat and pressure.
Vacuum Forming
A thermoforming process that uses negative pressure to conform material to a mold.
Hydroforming
A process that uses pressurized fluid to conform material to a mold.
Matched Die Forming
A forming process using matched upper and lower metal molds under higher pressures.
Twin-Sheet Forming
A process that forms two preheated sheets between molds using a combination of vacuum and air pressure.
Drape Forming
A process where a preheated sheet is stretched over a male mold using gravity or vacuum.
