how do we do this practical

set up instruments

so we put calcium carbonate chips in the flask, then hydrochloric acid (depending on the concertration) then affter that we put the bung on the lid of the flask. Time the amount of gas produced until it hits 50 ml

what does this practical show (and why)

when increasing concentration ion hydrochloric acid means faster rate of reaction since there are more particals. Meaning more frequent collisions leading to faster rate of reaction.

3
New cards

what are the advantages of using a gas syringe instead of using a inverted measuring cylinder

more accurate

doesnt loose any gas

easier to read

4
New cards

what are the disadvantages of using a gas syringe instead of a inverted measuring cylinder

if syringe is not smooth it might jam

more fragile

5
New cards

how to calculate mean rate of reaction

volume of gas produced / time taken

6
New cards

how can we improve this practical

use same temperature water
