much higher unemployment rate, lower wages, struggle more intense
Murray v Person
argued against ‘seperate but equal’ education for Murray in Maryland; did not change discrimination in education but set important legal precedent
Social Security Act of 1935
US was late to adoptiing a insurance law, deepened racial and gender inequalities as it excluded many African Americans
Federal Theater Project
former slaves’s soties were recorded and produced into plays, tickets were inexpensive or free.
Tax Reform
“Wealth Tax Act” which placed higher taxes on people with high income.
National Labor Relations Act
Wagner Act, provided basic rights of private sector employees to organize into trade unions, engage in collective bargening for better terms & take collective action. Defined unfair labor practices
labor rights through fed gov. excluded agricultural and domestic workers, which negativly impacted African Americans.
Fair Labor Standards Act
Established minimum wage, maximum working hours, and prohibited child labor.
Women & The New Deal
did not aim to support women and pushed them out of the labor market
Agriculture and domestic service sectors
had most women and African Americans and also most excluded from legislation of the New Deal
