Hardware
The physical components of a computer, which includes the computer itself, monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, and items like the CPU and disks.
Software
The "boss" of the computer that works with hardware to perform tasks such as writing letters, connecting printers, balancing checkbooks, and video calling friends.
System Software
A category of software that performs basic tasks, coordinates hardware, helps programs work simultaneously, and provides a platform for application software.
Application Software
Software designed to perform specialized tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, photo editing, and bookkeeping.
Operating System
A component of system software that coordinates the keyboard, display, and files while controlling peripheral devices like disk drives and printers.
Utilities
Basic programs included with system software, such as notepad, calculator, and media viewer.
Web based Software
Software that can be used on all computers without being downloaded, though it may require a login and password to access.
