Ketone
Functional group name with the suffix -one.
Aldehyde
Functional group name with the suffix -al (carbaldehyde) and the prefix Formyl-.
Alcohol
Functional group name with the suffix -ol and the prefix Hydroxy-.
Ether
Functional group name with the suffix ether and the prefix Alkoxy- (methoxy, ethoxy, etc.).
Amine
Functional group name with the suffix -amine and the prefix Amino-.
Alkyl Halide
A functional group where R=alkyl and X can be F (Fluoro-), Cl (Chloro-), Br (Bromo-), or I (Iodo-).
Carboxylic Acid
Functional group name with the suffix -oic acid (carboxylic acid).
Amide
Functional group name with the suffix -amide (carboxamide).
Acid Chloride
Functional group name with the suffix -oyl chloride.
Thiol
Functional group name with the suffix -thiol and the prefix Mercapto-.
Alkene
Functional group name for carbon-carbon double bonds with the suffix -ene.
Alkyne
Functional group name for carbon-carbon triple bonds with the suffix -yne.
Arene / Aromatic Compound
Functional group involving benzene; often uses the prefix Phenyl-.
Nitrile
Functional group name with the suffix -nitrile and the prefix Cyano-.
Ester
Functional group name with the suffix -oate (-carboxylate).
