promote and live by high moral standards, always applying "TEAM" to the organization, acting respectful and disciplines at all Tomball functions, encourage sportsmanship, school sprit, and support interest in all sports, fine arts and other activities the school provides
what do charms wear every Monday
Members are required to wear dresses or skirts that are appropriate on the first day of each new school week to represent them as young ladies. If the weather is too cold deemed by the Director, then members may opt out of the Monfay dress rule. However they should still dress nice to still look like a lady.

yes, it can be either a permanent or a non permanent demerit
if you miss summer camp for more than two days, what performance can't you perform in
the first football game
what piercing are not recommended to get for drill team
facial piercings and tongue piercings, you can get belly button rings but it is better to not have them as they can not be worn with performance attire as well as teh cartilage and tragus piercings

do you tryout for performances

what are the ways to not be able to perform
not performance ready with kicks, splits, dance, and technique, missing more than one dah of weekly practice (excused/unexcused), missing the final day of rehearsal, absence on the day of performance, and if you are absent on tryout day
what time can demerits be assigned to you
any time during school, dance/ drill team function, or off campus
how many demerits can you receive before you are taken out of a dance
5 permanent demerits or 8 TOTAL demerits (you must still attend practices and performances)
how many demerits can you get until you are taken off of the team
10 permanent or 15 TOTAL demerits will be dismissed from the team
how can you work off a permanent demerit
Each member will have an opportunity to erase non permanent demerits at a time designated by the director. The procedure for erasing the demerits is at the discretion of the Director. Demerits will be worked off by physical fitness conditions (4 sets of 25 reps and/or running an additional mile) per 1 demerit. All demerits must be worked of the day it is earned
What are the types of PERMANENT demerits
Keep in mind that a permanent demerit means that the member has done their conditioning, however the demerit will remain on the demerit sheet
-Assignment to ISS of OSS 5
-Discipline referral (the director will have the discretion on how 3-5 many demerits are given for the offense)
-Undermining the directors authority 5
-talking back to director 5
-unexcused absence from performance or required function 5
-unexcused absence from practice 1
-disrespect toward the director/teacher/administration 1-10
-unladylike conduct (deemed by director) 1-10
_inappropriate language 2
- misuse of social media and electronic devices as deemed by the director
-any other offense deemed necessary by the director
What are the type of NON PERMANENT demerits
keep in mind that if the member has done their conditioning to work off their demerit the demerit will remian on the demerit sheet until 25 merits erase it
Any of these offenses can be (1-5 demerits)
• Late to practice
0-5 minutes- 1 demerit
5-15 minutes- 2 demerits
After 15 minutes- unexcused absence
Late to performance/ leaving on trip
Chewing Gum
Wearing jewelry
Wearing nail polish while performing
Failure to wear designated item

What demerits can officers receive
Officers are expected to abide by policies of the team and to be mature in handling their leadership positions.
• Improper behavior of any officer could result in 1-10 demerits.Examples include but are not limited to:
Abuse of authority
Unnecessary criticism of a member
Failure to give merits or demerits
Failure to set a good example
Failure to meet responsibilities
Failure to fulfill duties
what are prohibited things to do while on the team/ways to get kicked off
Experimenting with or the use of drugs/alcohol, including association with underage drinking in or outside of school
Possessing, selling, giving, or delivering to another person, using, or being under the influence of any drug or controlled substance
Possessing any drug paraphernalia
Possessing, Selling, or delivering to another person look-alike drugs or items represented to be drugs or contraband of any kind
Engaging in conduct that contains the elements of an offense relating to glue, aerosol paint, or volatile, mood altering chemicals
Participation in any illegal activity and any conduct that results in arrest or citation
Possessing, smoking, selling, or using any tobacco product
Suspension from school for any reason
Theft/Stealing
Fighting
Failure to cooperate with school officials
Three or more unexcused absences in a semester
Inappropriate touching in public places, sexual gestures, or exposing parts of the body that are ordinarily covered up in public
Inappropriate Behavior
Any act, in the opinion of the director and/or principal that has or will adversely affect the reputation of the organization.
Failure of school administered random drug testing
Any school violation that results in AEP placement, suspension or expulsion.
An ISS placement due to discipline or any other discipline issues to be deemed by the Director.
Reaching 10 permanent demerits or 15 total demerits within the school year.
Failing two consecutive six weeks in the same class or three consecutive six weeks for any classes.
Other circumstances may arise throughout the year, and any decision regarding the member's placement on team will be at the discretion of the Director and Administration if necessary.
what is the importance of the charms constitution
All decisions made are final. The purpose of tris consutations to reman lal afd consistent.
• Each member will receive a copy of the Constitution. Each member and parent is expected to read it and have a signed contract turned in with both the member's and the parent's signature.
If a parent is in question of a rule or procedure, it is the parent's responsibility to refer to the Constitution before approaching the Director. The Director will refer to the Constitution.
The Constitution will be reviewed and revised annually by the Director if necessary. The revised document will be submitted to the Tomball High School Administration for final approval.
what is the merit system
25 merits will erase 1 non permanent demerit
what are grades supposed to look like
All members must meet UIL rules and regulations for grades set forth by the state.
All members will enroll in drill team class as assigned by the director. Grades will be assigned in accordance with established TISD grading procedures.
Progress Reports and Report Cards will be checked and tutorial hours will be given for every grade that is a 70 o below.
Eligibility is checked at the three, six and nine week period of each nine weeks. It can be lost at the six week peri of the first nine weeks. After the first six weeks, eligibility can only be lost at the end of each nine weeks. If a dancer loses eligibility, it may be regained at the end of the three, six or nine week grading period of any nine weeks.
Dancers will remain ineligible for at least three weeks. They may be reinstated at the three week progress report with a passing grade in all classes in accordance with UIL policy.
Ineligible dancers still must attend all practices but may not perform or participate in any Charm function until eligibility has been regained.
When eligibility is regained, immediate participation may not be permitted based on the impact on upcoming performances. The Director retains the right to make this decision once reinstatement has been granted.
Charms will be dismissed after failing two consecutive nine week periods in the same class, or failing three consecutive nine week periods for any class.
Members who fail prior to a drill team trip will not be able to attend the trip and will not receive any refund for the trip. It is the member and parent's responsibility to stay on top of grades, not the Director.
In the case of any individual discrepancy, the Director and administrators will convene to consider the preponderance of evidence to make a final determination.
Grades start over when the school ear starts over.
Candidates who do not meet conduct or teacher recommendation requirements may be asked to conference with the Director and parents to discuss eligibility.
Candidates who have had ISS may be ineligible to try-out and may be asked to conference with the Director to decide eligibility.
what are some team requirements
The Director and Administration may require a membership contract due to prior disciplinary issues. Failure to adhere to the membership contract will result in immediate dismissal from the team.
Membership is a one-year commitment. Candidates or returning members should not consider or discuss quitting mid-year as it brings team morale down. Such discussions may result in disrespect demerits.
If a member must resign, she will not be allowed to participate in social events or performance activities. Members who resign will be moved into a PE class or any other available non-elective class during the same class period. Former members may not wear Charm attire to school and must turn in all uniform and costume pieces within 7 days, cleaned.
Failure to turn in all items will result in hold notices.
Members who resign will not be refunded any money that they have paid to the organization leading up to that date.
Members may not return the next year if all balances are not paid in full by the try-out date.
Members must be in 9-12' grade during membership.
Members must have a physical completed before line camp each year.
Members must complete and turn in consent to a random drug testing form
what do tryouts look like
All current members of the Cougar Charms must try out each year in order to continue membership. Any member who was dismissed from the 2020-2021 Cougar Charms will not participate in the 2021-2022 team tryouts.
In order to audition for the Cougar Charm line, you will need to attend a tryout clinic and perform in front of a panel of 3 experienced judges and the director. Once a girl makes the team, they are not required to try out again for the
line.
Candidates will be evaluated on their most recent report card, conduct throughout the year, voluntary teacher recommendations and interviews. The Director will also establish performance criteria that will include technical elements.
Any candidate who leaves try-outs before judging is completed will not be eligible to try-out.
Candidates will not be allowed to try-out or return to the team unless members and parents have read and completed the Parent Consent Form, Constitution test, and signed the last page of the Constitution.
Candidates who do not make the team are encouraged to register for PE/Dance | Dance class will be beneficial in helping girls make drill team in Spring for the following year. Candidates who are not selected have until the Monday following auditions to review their own score sheets.
All decisions are final and non- negotiable for line and officer tryouts.
Any member that has been on the team for one full year is allowed to try out for dance or social officer.
Officer tryouts also include a detailed notebook, interview, team vote, dance and kick evaluation, solo, and any other assignment assigned by the director. The director has the discretion to modify the tryout process from year tc year as the director sees fit.

what are the duties of the dance officers
it is the duty of each dance officer to assist the Director with all officers and line members in ranking order and to show respect for all officers and Directors). If necessary, it becomes the officer's duty to substitute for the Director n her absence.
Dance officers may not discuss quitting or resigning at any time to line members or non-members as it will be considered a non-officer quality. Such behavior may result in disrespect demerits or removal from office. For such concerns, the chain of command is expected to be followed. It is up to the Director's discretion how to handle such behavior.
Dance officers will be required to have practices outside of normal team practices in preparation for camp and competition. Therefore. dance officer practice hours are more in comparison to team hours.
how are you able to attend the banquet and winter ball as well as earn a letterman jacket
Members may attend Winter Ball/ Banquet based on the following:
Members have had no major discipline issues (up to the discretion of the Director).
All balances for the school year are paid in full up to the date of the event. (This shall also include any Holiday parties that the team should have)
LETTER JACKETS
Members must complete two full years on the team in order to qualify for a letter jacket. If a member quits or is dismissed prior to the last spring ordering date at the end of their 2nd year, they do not qualify for a jacket.
Members must have attended all summer practices to be considered for a jacket.
Members must have performed and attended practices regularly to be deemed by the Director.
Members must complete the entire year, participating after contests in Spring Show, Banquet, etc. Failure to complete the entire year will not qualify members for letter jackets. Year concludes the day after the end of the year banquet.
All letter jackets will be handed out at the same time, as deemed by the Director.
Members who earned their jacket and are not returning the next year may still receive their letter jacket at the same time as the current members, if all qualifications have been met.
Members will not be allowed to order their letter jackets if they have an outstanding balance.
Members may not order their letter jackets if they have more than 8 permanent demerits.
Letter jackets are a privilege and not a right so rules will be followed accordingly and all decisions are final.
Members may not have been placed on academic or demerit probation.
Participate in all official team competitions for the year, performing in at least (2) routines.
Seniors at the discretion of the Director and with the approval of the school Principal may receive an award jacket if they are felt to deserve it, even though they may not have fulfilled the requirements set forth in the Constitution.
