Absolute

Antimetabole
A specific form of chiasmas where in the 2 halves of a phrase/ sentence are exactly reversed. Ex: Fair in foul, and foul in fair
Metonymy
When word/ phrase is replaced by another word/ phrase that is very closely associated with it. Ex: The crown has spoken (queen/king)
Synecdoche
Specific kind of metonymy where in a part of something is used to refer to the whole of it. it objectify ppl sometimes Nice wheels! (nice car!)
Antithesis
a phrase/ sentence has 2+ parts grammatically parallel, but opposites in meaning/ idea. ex: I was the best of times, it was the worst of times
Amplification
The emphasis of one element of one element in a sentence/ passage, by the addition/ through of vivid description. Ex: he sat on the shore and watched the water. he looked at the clouds, and they were piled high….
Hypophora
when a speaker asks a questions then immediately answers question themself can be narc. EX: dogs or cats? cats
Understatement
A purposeful down playing of a issue/ event 4 ironic effect/ type of exaggeration. EX: No big deal, I jest need to get a little brain surgery.
Litotes
specific form of understatement where the negative is expressed by negating the positive or the positive is expressed by negating the negative ex: I’m not hating this look on you! (I love it) I don’t love this soup (I hate it)
