DRPIE Overview
An engineering problem-solving process based on the fact that most engineering problems have more than one answer; it involves going back and forth between steps and spending time on DRP.
Define (DRPIE)
The step where you make a list of unknowns and identify the goal, knowns, unknowns, info, constraints, assumptions, questions, and estimates.
Represent (DRPIE)
The step where you visualize the problem using a sketch, graph, flowchart, or diagram.
Plan (DRPIE)
The step where you identify CAD programs that will help you design a part and analyze similarities, differences, tools, and the solution.
Implement (DRPIE)
The step where you gather all necessary tools, compute the plan, run simulation, and record results in a notebook.
Evaluate (DRPIE)
The step where you determine if the final answer falls in an expected range (estimate), ensure the solution is logical and reasonable, check if it answers the goal, check work, compare with other possible solutions, and present the solution.
