Corrections
A branch of the Criminal Justice System concerned with the custody, supervision and rehabilitation of criminal offenders; involves handling convicted individuals for crime prevention and control.
Sociology of Laws
One of the three principal divisions of criminology.
Etiology of Crime
A principal division of criminology referring to the reason of crime, theories, and explanation of criminal tendencies.
Penology
The study of punishment for crime or of criminal offenders, including the control and prevention of crime through punishment; derived from the Latin word "PEONA" meaning pain or suffering.
Penal Science
Another name for Penology, dealing with prison management, the treatment of offenders, and the philosophy of society's efforts to repress criminal activities.
PEONA
The Latin term word from which Penology is derived, meaning pain or suffering.
Ethical barriers of punishment
One of the principal aims of penology is to bring light to these, along with the motives and purposes of society inflicting it.
Penal Management
The manner or practice of managing or controlling places of confinement as in jails or prisons.
Correctional administration
The study and practice of a system management of jails or prisons and other institutions concerned with the custody, treatment and rehabilitation of criminal offenders.
Commitment Order
A written order of the court or any other competent authority consigning an offender to a jail or prison for confinement.
Mittimus
A warrant issued by the court bearing its seals and signature of the judge, directing the jail or prison authority to receive offenders for custody or service of sentence imposed therein.
Carpeta
The institutional record of inmates which consists of Information, Decision, Subpoena, Warrant of Arrest, Commitment Order and Mittimus.
Conjugal Visit
A privilege where a male inmate may enjoy visits from his spouse in prison where facilities are available under conditions prescribed by the Director.
Proselytizing
The act of trying to persuade someone to change their religious faith, political party, or general way of life.
