dimethyl-p-phenylene diamine hydrochloride
Used for oxidase test, this reagent is oxidized by cytochrome c oxidase and turns dark blue to black
Sulfanillic acid
Nitrate I
Dimethyl alpha naphthylamine
Nitrate II
Barrits reagents?
Alpha Naphthol(VPI) and KOH (VPII)
Brilliant green?
Is a inhibitor in shigella salmonella agar and Bismuth sulfite agar
Malachite green?
Primary dye used in spore staining, the schaffer fullton methiod
Carbol Fuchsin?
The primary dye used in the zeel nielson or acid fast stain of mycobacterium leprae/tuberculosis
Neutral red?
Indicator used in MacConkey and Shigella Salmonella
Turns pink/red when exposed to acids
Phenol red?
Is used in PR sugar broths/mannitol salt agar/urea
Turns yellow:acid
Remains red:neutral
Turns pink: NH3/Base
10% FeCL3
Reacts with Phenyl Pyruvic acid, a product of the reaction of phenylaalanine catalyzed by phenylalanine deaminase, which turns the slant green
Phenylalanine→PPA+NH3
Methyl Green?
Binds to DNA, when DNA is broken down by DNases, the blue color clears around the colony
Iodine
Is used in amylase test,
starch reacts with iodine to form a purple color, therefor a negative result has NO purple color
Spirit blue
Used for Lipase tests. Lipids and spirit blue associate in agar. If lipase is released by the colony, the lipid is broken down and spirit blue sticks to colony and the colony appears dull.
Endo agar
mEndo
mFc agar
