Music Parody

  • It involves changing or copying existing (usually well-known) musical ideals, and lyrics

  • Copying the particular style of a composer or performer, or even a general style of music

  • Although the intention of this may be humor (as in burlesque), it is the re-use of music that is the original defining feature

  • In music, parody has been used for many different purposes and in various musical contexts: as a serious compositional technique, as an unsophisticated re-use of well-known melody to present new words, and as an intentionally humorous, even mocking, reworking of existing musical material, sometimes for satirical effect

Spoken Word Poetry

  • It refers to an oral poetic performance art that is based mainly on the poem as well as the performer’s aesthetic qualities

  • It is a late 20th century continuation of an ancient oral artistic tradition that focuses on the aesthetics of recitation and word play, such as the performer’s live intonation and voice inflection

  • It’s a “catchall” term that includes any kind of poetry recited aloud, including poetry readings, poetry slams, jazz poetry, and hip hop music, and can include comedy routines and prose monologues

  • Unlike written poetry, the poetic text takes its quality less from the visual aesthetic on a page, but depends more on phonaesthetics, or the aesthetic of sound

Hugot Lines

  • It is a verb, which means “to pull/to draw”

  • It means that someone draws out certain emotions through something that he or she says

  • Some of these lines are witty, but they are tinged with emotions

  • Feelings come from “deep within” so you have had to “____” your emotions first “from deep within” before you would’ve actually blurted them out in somehow emotionally undertoned words, subconciously or otherwise
