Music Parody
It involves changing or copying existing (usually well-known) musical ideals, and lyrics
Copying the particular style of a composer or performer, or even a general style of music
Although the intention of this may be humor (as in burlesque), it is the re-use of music that is the original defining feature
In music, parody has been used for many different purposes and in various musical contexts: as a serious compositional technique, as an unsophisticated re-use of well-known melody to present new words, and as an intentionally humorous, even mocking, reworking of existing musical material, sometimes for satirical effect
Hegemon of Thasos
According to Aristotle (Poetics, ii 5), he was the inventor of a kind of parody; by slightly altering the wording in well-known poems, he transformed to sublime into the ridicullous
Weird Al Yankovic
A major contender, musician, and leading parody-man.
He made a career out of his parodies of American popular music.
He made popular musical parodies in the 1980s that rivaled many of the artists’ work that he ridiculed

Eat it (Beat it)
Amish Paradise (Gangsta’s Paradise)
Smells like Nirvana (Smells like Teen Spirit)
Like a Surgeon (Like a Virgin)
Couch Potato (Lose Yourself)
Spoken Word Poetry
It refers to an oral poetic performance art that is based mainly on the poem as well as the performer’s aesthetic qualities
It is a late 20th century continuation of an ancient oral artistic tradition that focuses on the aesthetics of recitation and word play, such as the performer’s live intonation and voice inflection
It’s a “catchall” term that includes any kind of poetry recited aloud, including poetry readings, poetry slams, jazz poetry, and hip hop music, and can include comedy routines and prose monologues
Unlike written poetry, the poetic text takes its quality less from the visual aesthetic on a page, but depends more on phonaesthetics, or the aesthetic of sound

Hugot Lines
It is a verb, which means “to pull/to draw”
It means that someone draws out certain emotions through something that he or she says
Some of these lines are witty, but they are tinged with emotions
Feelings come from “deep within” so you have had to “____” your emotions first “from deep within” before you would’ve actually blurted them out in somehow emotionally undertoned words, subconciously or otherwise
Hugot Lines Examples
It’s not always the tears that measure the pain. Sometimes it’s the smile we fake.
