properties of a solid
closely packed, vibrate in a fixed position and regular lattice. Have low energy
properties of a liquid
closely packed but not regular lattice (irregular), can move past each other. Have more energy than solids
properties of a gas
particles are far apart, move randomly. Highest energy.
what do I mean by lattice?
a regular 3D (three dimensional) shape of particles
what is melting
when solid turns into liquid
what is boiling
when liquid turns to gas
what is condensation
gas turns to liquid
what is freezing
when liquid turns into a solid
what is sublimation
when solid turns into gas
what is deposition
gas turns into a solid
define diffusion
when particles move into a high concentration to low concentration
why does diffusion not happen in solids
becuase since they are in a fixed, lattice arrangement, they cannot move freely.
what is dilution and what happens
when water is added to a coloured solution, when the water is added the concentration spreads through the water particles. Making the liquid less concentrated therefore it loses its colour.
define solvent
Liquid that dissolves in the solute
Define solute
the substance that dissolves the solvent
define solution
the mixture of the solvent and the solute
define saturated solution
solution that can no longer be dissolved at a certain temperature.
