Absolutism
Unquestioned rule.
Charles 1’s Execution
The King loses a civil war against Parliament, and is found guilty in trial and sentenced to death. He drags out the execution, and even in his own death he calls the shots. This is an example of absolutism.
Aristocracy
Government by the best; a type of class system.
Hierarchy
Fixed rankings in society that are very hard to change, based on class, not money.
Social Deference
The respect shown to social betters, where respect flows towards those of higher social standing.
Patronage
The duty that the upper class owes to the lower class, based on sympathy and acknowledgment of hard work. Thee only way to ascend the hierarchy.
Age of Enlightenment
The quest to survey all of the world’s knowledge, leading to more widespread knowledge.
Pompeii Excavation
Found new technologies like concrete, aqueducts, plentiful food, and brothels.
