Volar Splint Steps

  1. Check pulse and cap ref

  2. Measure from Palmar crease to 2 finger widths distal to elbow

  3. Cut desired length of splint → Diagonal across palmar crease

  4. Round out edges & trim padding

  5. Activate with water and fit to patient

  6. Secure with bandage (2x around palm and down to elbow)

  7. Mold to patient

  8. Check cap refill

Thumb Spica Steps

  1. Check pulse and cap refill

  2. Measure from injured thumb to one hand width distal to elbow

  3. Cut desired length of splint, round edges

  4. Activate with water

  5. Place one side at tip of thumb, spiraling rest of splint over dorsal hand/arm

  6. Anchor wrist (starting from dorsal thumb side x2)

  7. Spica x1 back, through web space, to back

  8. Wrap overlap 50% down arm

  9. Mold to patient hand/arm

  10. Check cap refill

  1. Check pulse and cap refill

  2. measure from tip of middle finger to two finger widths from elbow

  3. Cut splint to length and round edges of all

  4. Make mark at thumb proximally

  5. Mark from middle of cast down to palmar crease, then diagnal across crease towards pinky

  6. Cut leaving thumb portion, Round Edges

  7. Activate splint

  8. line up splint with palmar crease

  9. Wrap thumb portion around thumb

  10. Anchor splint at wrist, around thumb x2, web space x2

  11. Wrap down arm by 50%

  12. Mold to patient

  13. Check cap refill

  3. 90 degree Flexion and Abduction

  4. Measure from palmar crease, down length of arm, around elbow and back up (Letter U)

  5. Activate with water

  6. Fit to arm

  7. Anchor at wrist, down to elbow, back up arm, through web space

  8. Check cap refill

  1. Check pulse and cap refill

  2. Measure from tip of 4th finger to one hand width away from elbow

  3. Take splint out of padding, fold top half and mark line following patients fingertip angle (towards pinky)

  4. Round edges & trim padding

  5. Activate with water

  6. Place V splint end around 4th-5th fingers & fold round arm

  7. Anchor at fingers x2

  8. Wrap around wrist, fingers at 45 deg angle, through web space x2

  9. Wrap down arm

  10. Mold to hand

Posterior Splint Leg

  1. Check pulse and cap refill

  2. Measure from the tip of big to → ankle → 2 finger widths below popliteal sciatic

  3. Cut desired length of splint

  4. Round edges

  5. Mark point at base of the heel

  6. Follow 10 cm above and below mark, draw horizontal line both ends

  7. Mark 4 edges halfway diagonal (towards center point, draw vertical line from one line to another on same half

  8. Cut 4 lines and fold butterfly

  9. Activate with water

  10. Apply splint, reinforced (butterfly) side away from patient

  11. Apply 1st wrap at ankle → heel → toes

  12. 2nd bandage wrap up and down leg

  13. Trim splint to shape of toes

  14. 3rd bandage ankle → foot ( go around ankle and cover lip of splint)

  15. Fasten

  16. check cap refill
