• people learn social behavior by observing others

bobo doll experiment

• developed to prove trhat children learn by mere observation

• developed this with theory in the 1960s

experiment 1: basic imitation

• kids watched an adult kick and scold the bobo doll for 10 mins

• then these kids get ragebaited when toys r taken away, then placed in the room with the bobo dall

  • boys are 3x more likely to imitate than girls; kids imitate same sex models more

experiment 2: live vs. filmed vs. cartoon

• kids watched the agression live, on video, or as a cartoon

• all three groups imitated at similar rates

  • this concludes that the medium didnt matter, kids learn agression

experiment 3: reinforcement/punishment

• kids watched the model hit the doll then saw the model get praised or punished

  • kids who saw the model punished, they showed less agression, seen mostly in girls
