Diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to low concentration
Osmosis
Osmosis is the movement of water particles from an area of high water potential to an area of low water potential
Active transport
Active transport is the movement of particles from an area of low concentration to high concentration, against the gradient, using energy released from respiration
What factors effect diffusion and osmosis
Surface area, concentration and temperature
How does temperature affect rate of reaction
Increasing the temperature gives the particles more kinetic energy. Therefore they move faster so diffusion/ osmosis occurs quicker
How does surface area affect rate of reaction?
The larger the surface area the shorter the diffusion pathway
How is this specialised cell adapted to do active transport?
Projection, larger surface area so shorter diffusion pathway. Many mitochondria, releases more energy from respiration to be used during active transport
differentiation
The process in which un specialised cells become specialised
