Hyperthyroidism
A condition in which the thyroid gland is overactive, producing excessive hormones T3 and T4.
Hypothyroidism
A condition in which the thyroid gland is underactive, resulting in insufficient production of thyroid hormones.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
A hormone that stimulates the production of T3 and T4 by the thyroid gland.
Levothyroxine
A synthetic form of T4 used to treat hypothyroidism.
Radioactive Iodine
A treatment for hyperthyroidism that destroys thyroid tissue, making the patient radioactive.
Euthyroid
A state of normal thyroid function where TSH, T3, and T4 levels are within the normal range.
Adrenal Insufficiency
A condition caused by insufficient levels of steroid hormones, often due to abrupt cessation of steroid medications.
Cortisol / Steroid
Hormones released by the adrenal glands that help to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system.
Myotic
A medication that constricts the pupils of the eye.
Mydriatic
A medication that dilates the pupils of the eye, often used during eye examinations.
Scopolamine
An anticholinergic patch applied behind the ear to prevent nausea or motion sickness.
Meclizine
An antihistamine used to treat dizziness and motion sickness.
PTU (Propylthiouracil)
A medication used to treat hyperthyroidism by inhibiting hormone production.
Methimazole
A medication that reduces thyroid hormone levels to treat hyperthyroidism.
Diabetes Medications
Various insulin types and oral medications studied in preparation for diabetes management.
PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor)
A class of drugs that reduce stomach acid production, which can interact with levothyroxine.
