Bacteriostatic
A type of drug action that inhibits the growth or reproduction of bacteria without necessarily killing them.
Bactericidal
A type of drug action that results in the direct death of the targeted bacterial cells.
Kirby-Bauer test
A type of Agar Diffusion Test used to determine the susceptibility of specific bacteria to various antimicrobial drugs.

Initial skin changes that are directly caused by a disease process.
Secondary Lesions
Skin abnormalities that result from the evolution, scratching, or infection of a primary lesion.
Meningitis
An infection or inflammation of the meninges, the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord.
Encephalitis
Inflammation of the brain itself, often caused by viral or bacterial infection.
Meningoencephalitis
A clinical condition involving inflammation of both the meninges and the brain.
Haemophilus meningitis
A nervous system infection caused by the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae.
Meningococcal meningitis
A bacterial infection of the meninges caused by Neisseria meningitidis.
Pneumococcal meningitis
A bacterial infection of the meninges caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Listeria meningitis
An infection of the meninges caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.
Leprosy
A chronic infectious disease of the nervous system and skin caused by Mycobacterium leprae.
Botulism
A severe paralytic illness caused by the neurotoxin produced by Clostridium botulinum.
Tetanus
A nervous system disorder characterized by muscle stiffness and spasms caused by the toxin of Clostridium tetani.
Gingivitis
An inflammation of the gums, often representing the early stage of periodontal disease.
Gastritis
Inflammation of the stomach lining, often associated with pathogens or chemical irritation.
Food borne illness
An infection or irritation of the GI tract caused by food or beverages that contain harmful bacteria, parasites, or viruses.
Food poisoning
A condition caused by the ingestion of food containing pre-formed toxins, rather than a live infection.
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS)
A rare muscle-weakening condition that can follow certain gastrointestinal or respiratory infections.
Bacteremia
The clinical presence of bacteria within the bloodstream.
Sepsis
A life-threatening systemic inflammatory response triggered by an infection in the body.
