the repetition of vowel sounds
blank verse
unrhymed lines of poetry, usually in iambic pentameter
couplets
a pair of rhyming lines in a poem, often set off from the rest of the poem
elegy
a poem mourning the dead
end rhyme
rhyming words that are the ends of their respective lines (what we typically think of as normal rhyme)
free verse
poetry with no set meter (rhythm) or rhyme scheme
iambic pentameter
ten-syllable lines in which every other syllable is stressed
internal rhyme
a rhyme that occurs within one line
lyric
a type of poetry that expresses the poet's emotions. It often tells a brief story, engaging the reader in the experience

the petition of similar sounds that are not full rhymes
Ode
a form of lyric poetry expressing emotion in a short lyrical style; many praise people, natural scenes, and abstract ideas
blank verse
poetry that contains meter/rhythm but does not have a purposeful rhyme pattern
