This theme answers the question, “Where is it?”
Location
This is a place’s exact position on Earth, often using latitude and longitude coordinates. For example, a street address or GPS coordinates.
Absolute Location
This descries a place by relating it to another location. For example, “Texas is south of Oklahoma.”
Relative Location
This theme describes what a location is like.
Place
This includes landforms, climate, vegetation, and wildlife.
Physical Characteristics
This includes language, religion, culture, and architecture.
Human Characteristics
This theme explains the relationship between humans and their natural surroundings
Human-Environment Interaction
Within this theme (Human-Environment Interaction) there are three things that explain it
How people ADAPT to their environment (building houses to withstand hurricanes)
How people DEPEND on their environment (using a river for drinking water)
How people MODIFY their environment (building dams or roads)
This theme analyzes how and why people, goods, and ideas move from one place to another.
Movement
