U.S. Constitutional Authority

Article I of Constitution

Legislative Branch, which is responsible for making and passing laws for the country. It defines the structure, powers, and responsibilities of Congress, allowing it to regulate commerce, declare war, and levy taxes.

Article II of Constitution

Executive Branch, which is led by the President and is responsible for enforcing federal laws and commanding the military.

Article III of Constitution

Judicial Branch, creates the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal courts, granting them the authority to interpret and evaluate laws against the Constitution.

Article IV of Constitution

Involves the states powers and limits while addressing the Full Faith and Credit Clause. Ensures that judicial decrees/contracts in one state are enforceable in another.

Article V of Constitution

Outlines the process for amending the Constitution, allowing it to evolve and adapt to follow the needs of society.

Article VI of Constitution

Contains the Supremacy Clause, which establishes that the Constitution and it’s laws are the supreme law of the land. Ties the duties of law enforcement officers to uphold the higher laws, and not just the local and state laws.
