False Acceptance Rate (FAR)
Probability that the system incorrectly grants access to an unauthorized subject (false positive/type II error).
[Lower amount means stronger security but typically more user friction.]
False Rejection Rate (FRR
Probability that the system incorrectly denies access to an authorized subject (false negative/type I error).
[Lower amount means better usability but often at the cost of higher FAR.]
Crossover Error Rate (CER) (aka Equal Error Rate, EER)
Is the error rate at the threshold where FAR and FRR intersect on a graph. At this operating point, the chance of wrongly accepting and wrongly rejecting are numerically the same.
[A lower amount indicates a more accurate biometric system, because you can tune it so that both FAR and FRR are relatively low compared to a system with a higher amount.]
