Artificial Selection
Def: Humans pick specific traits they want.
Domestication
Def: We can use artificial selection to achieve this. Results in permanent genetic changes that often leave the species unable to survive in the wild/ dependent on humans.
Example of artifical selection
Breeding a faster racehorse or a bigger pumpkin for those competitions.
Example of domestication
Wolves into house hold dogs over years, and plants.
How have human-built systems altered the evolution of global and local ecosystems
Birds act like a thermostat, naturally tracking local conditions. If temperatures rise earlier in the year (due to global warming), a female bird's hormonal systems react, triggering earlier egg-laying.
