Quadrilateral
A polygon with exactly four sides. All quadrilaterals are closed figures made of line segments.
Congruent
Having the same size and shape.
Trapezoid
A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides (bases).
Isosceles Trapezoid
A trapezoid with one pair of congruent sides and one line of symmetry.

Right Trapezoid
A trapezoid that has 2 right angles and no lines of symmetry.

Parallelogram
A quadrilateral with 2 pairs of parallel sides (opposite sides), 2 pairs of congruent sides, and congruent opposite angles.
Rhombus
A quadrilateral with 4 congruent sides, 2 pairs of parallel sides (opposite sides), and congruent opposite angles.
Rectangle
A quadrilateral with 4 right angles (90 degrees each), 2 pairs of parallel sides (opposite sides), and 2 pairs of congruent sides.
Square
A quadrilateral with 4 right angles (90 degrees each) and 4 congruent sides, with 2 pairs of parallel sides.
Bisect
To divide into two equal parts.
Line of Symmetry
A line that divides a figure into two congruent parts, each of which is the mirror image of the other.
Diagonal
A line drawn from one vertex to another in a shape. All quadrilaterals have 2 diagonals.
Diagonals of a Parallelogram
Two diagonals that always bisect each other.
Diagonals of a Rhombus
Two diagonals that bisect each other and are perpendicular (making right angles).
Diagonals of a Trapezoid
The 2 diagonals of a trapezoid that do not bisect each other.

Quadrilaterals Venn Diagram
A chart classifying quadrilaterals based on whether they have no parallel sides, 1 pair of parallel sides (trapezoid), or 2 pairs of parallel sides (parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square).
