How are alcohols converted to alkenes (cyclohexanol as example)
We heat alcohol under reflux in the presence of either concentrated sulfuric acid, or concentrated phosphoric (V) acid. These acids act as a catalyst for this reaction.
Water is also produced.

Whats an elimination reaction
An example is dehydration reaction
In elimination reaction, a small molecule is removed from a larger parent molecule.
In case of dehydration of alcohols, the small molecule is water.
