Standard Error of the Mean
Used to assess how accurately the sample mean estimates the population mean.
Standard Deviation
The aveage amount by which all the values deviate from the mean (measures spread of data).
Range
The difference between the lowest and highest limits of something.
Mean
Average set of numbers.
Median
The middle number in a set of data when numbers are put in order from smallest to largest.
Mode
The number that shows up the most in a data set.
Spread
How far apart or clustered together data points are.
Variance
The degree to which data are spread out in a data set.
Null Hypothesis
A statement predicting that the independent variable will have no significant effect on the dependent variable.
Alternative Hypothesis
A statement predicting a specific, measurable relationship or effect between the variables.
Polarity
Unequal sharing of electrons and overall charge is unevenly distributed.
Cohesion
The hydrogen bonds that hold the substance together.
Adhesion
The clinging of one substance to another.
Ex: H-bonds to cell walls
