Informed Consent
Humans must know what they are signing up for and give consent to participate willingly in an experiment. Deception should be avoided or minimized.
No Coercion (Voluntary Participation)
Participants cannot be forced or pressured to participate in a study. Participation must be voluntary.
No Risk to Participants
Experiments should not cause significant physical, mental, or social harm to participants. Participants should be safe and comfortable.
Animal Acquisition Guidelines
Animals must be obtained legally and humanely. Wild animals must be caught in a proper, humane, and legal manner.
Animal Selection Guidelines
The most suitable animals for the experiment should be selected, considering their sentience and potential suffering.
Animal Housing and Experiment Conditions
Animals must be housed in humane conditions, and experiment conditions must minimize suffering.
Scientific Purpose (animal testing)
Animal experiments must have a clear scientific purpose to answer an important/useful scientific question.
Confidentiality/Anonymity
Researchers should maintain a decent level of confidentiality/anonymity for participants to protect their privacy.
Debriefing
After the experiments, participants should be informed about the results and how their data was used. Researchers should answer questions.
