what is desertification? what is it caused by?

  • process where areas become drier

  • climate change: less rainfall means ground doesnt get moisture so it dries up

  • overcultivation: more crops require more water and exhausts soil

  • collecting fuel wood: destabilises soil by stripping vegetation away so it is exposed to wind which dries it up.
