Diabetes Mellitus and Other Chronic Diseases
— Wound healing tends to be delayed, risk for wound dehiscence. Higher incidence of infection. Liver & kidney diseases make it more difficult to metabolize anesthesia & waste products.
Advanced age with Inactivity
— Risk of disuse syndrome, hypostatic pneumonia & thrombus formation.
Liver Disease
— Interferes with normal blood clotting. Cannot detoxify properly anesthesia & other drugs.
Regular use of certain drugs
— Aspirin, NSAID’s & anticoagulants make patients prone to bleeding. Corticosteroids delay wound healing
