Chapter 99 is a revelation received by Joseph Smith, given to John Murdock. John Murdock was a single father after his wife died and kids. Despite his hardships, he still devoted his life to preaching the gospel. This message given to him was God expressing his appreciation for that, and for John to continue what he was doing. He could serve wherever.

Know the promise the Lord gave Joseph about his family in D&C 100.

The lord promised their families were fine and being taken care of.
