Primary Source
A source, such as a letter, diary, interview, speech, or law, that provides firsthand information about an event from the view of someone who was present when that event occurred.
Secondary Source
A collection and interpretation of information gathered from other sources after an event has happened, such as the Internet or a textbook.
Letter Written by Soldiers Serving in World War II
An example of a primary source that tells about the soldiers' experiences with other soldiers in a foreign country.
Book Examining the Role of The United States During World War II
An example of a secondary source that discusses several soldiers' letters and draws conclusions from them.
