Critical Reading
Involves recognizing the writer’s purpose, identifying the tone and persuasive elements used, and recognizing biases.
Non-Critical Thinking
Occurs when a person accepts information without examining it.
Context
The social, cultural, political, historical backgrounds, and other related circumstances surrounding a text.
Intertextuality
The relationship between texts, where one text draws from or relates to another.
Parody
A form of intertextuality that imitates another work, often exaggerating it to produce a comic effect.
Pastiche
An imitation of a literary work that honors the original rather than mocking it.
Hyperttext
Characterized by external links embedded in a text, often used in technology-assisted reading devices.
Macedonian Phalanx
A military formation used by the Macedonian Empire that employed long spears to create an impenetrable wall of defense.
Peloponnesian War
A conflict (431 BCE - 404 BCE) resulting from the exploitation of weaker city-states by the dominant Athenian-led Delian League.

Judgments made about a text or artwork based on specific criteria and personal insights.
