Information Society
A system that has useful data.
Knowledge Workers (KW)
Workers whose main capital is knowledge (e.g., scientists, engineers, professors).
Data Workers (DW)
Workers who collect, store, manage, and analyze data as their primary activity.
Data
Individual or separate pieces of raw facts, concepts, and ideas derived through different modes of inquiry.
Information
Processed data that is organized, has use, provides meaning, and is important in accomplishing a certain task.

Timely, updated

Accurate, relevant, complete, concise, verifiable, cost-effective

Clarity, detailed order, presentation, layout, aesthetic and grammar

Information that is up-to-date
Organized Information
Information that is arranged to suit our needs and requirements
Accessible Information
Information that is available whenever it is needed
Knowledge
A concrete expression of thought derived from relating, understanding, and analyzing several pieces of valuable information.
DB (Database)
A persistent, organized, structured, and shared storage of collected interrelated data that has purpose.
Computer Literacy
Knowing how to use IT (Hardware, Software, Telecommunication, Storage Techniques).
IS Literacy
Understanding the importance of information and the nature of business (Computer + Business).
IS (Information System) - Technical Definition
A set of interrelated components that collects, processes, stores, and distributes information to support an organization's operations.
IS (Information System) - Management Definition
An organizational and management solution to business problems, whether manual or computerized.
Formal IS
Information system with fixed and accepted definition of data and procedures for collecting the info; easily changed. Ex. CBIS (Computer Based Info System)
Informal IS
Information system that rely on implicit agreements and unstated rules of behavior. Ex. Grapevines, office gossip network
