Random urine specimen
A specimen collected anytime during a 24-hour period with no measurement required.
Midstream specimen
A specimen requiring peri-care; for a female, this includes cleaning the perineal area and voiding.
Glucose
Tested to identify sugar in the blood.
Sputum specimen
A specimen best collected in the morning after the patient rinses the mouth with water and breathes deeply.
Trochanter roller
An instrument used to prevent the hip from turning outward.
Contracture
The lack of joint mobility caused by the abnormal shortening of a muscle.
Flexion
The bending of body parts.
Pronation
Turning the joint downwards.
Cane side
The side of the body on which a cane should be held, specifically the strong side.
Circulatory ulcer
A wound cared for by following a care plan to prevent skin breakdown and providing professional foot care.
Elastic bandages
Bandages used to provide support, reduce swelling from injuries, and hold dressings in place.
Abdominal binder
A device used for supporting wounds, holding dressings in place, and preventing or reducing swelling.
Aquathermia pad
A heating device that must be covered with a towel and never placed directly on a patient's skin.
Moist cold compress
A cold application left in place for 15-20 minutes.
Pressure injury
Localized damage to the skin and underlying soft tissue, often occurring in boney areas.
Hypoxia
A condition characterized by no air and a lack of oxygen; signs include restlessness, dizziness, and blue skin.
Orthopnea
Breathing comfortably only when sitting up.
Tachypnea
Rapid breathing.
Normal SpO2
An oxygen saturation level between 95 and 100.
Oxygen flow rate
Measured using a flow meter in liters per minute, generally between 1-15 liters.
Rehabilitation
A process that focuses on the whole person and involves preventing pressure injuries.
