Thinking Being

A dimension of the human person characterized by the ability to reason, solve problems, and make decisions.

Feeling Being

A dimension of the human person that experiences emotions such as joy, sadness, love, and anger, which influence decisions but should be guided by reason.

Moral Being

A dimension of the human person that recognizes the difference between right and wrong and bears responsibility for choices made.

Social Being

A dimension of the human person recognizing that humans naturally live in community with others, such as family, friends, and school, rather than in complete isolation.

Embodied Being

The philosophical concept that humans experience life and relate to others through their physical body, integrating body, mind, and heart.

Zoon Logon

A Greek term used by Aristotle meaning 'rational animal', describing humans as beings who possess reason, intelligence, and language to reflect before acting.

Pagkatao

A Filipino concept referring to human dignity, identity, character, and moral responsibility, which is expressed through internal character rather than external appearance.

Human Dignity

The inherent, non-negotiable worth of every human person as a rational and free subject who deserves respect and must never be treated as a mere tool or commodity.

Rationality

The uniquely human ability to think logically, analyze situations, solve problems, discern good from evil, and make wise decisions using reason rather than blind instinct.

Awareness

The first level of rationality, defined as simply knowing what is happening or recognizing basic facts, such as knowing that cheating or littering is wrong.

Understanding

The second level of rationality, defined as knowing why something is true or why an action is right or wrong.

Critical Thinking

Freedom

Freedom as 'Choosing' (Selection)

Level 1 freedom involving a reactive, consumer mindset where a person selects among existing alternative options that are already present.

Freedom as 'Creating' (Transformation)

Level 2 freedom involving a proactive, author/maker mindset where a person uses agency to invent new possibilities, solve problems, and generate value and meaning.

Wonder

A way of doing philosophy defined as the willingness to be awed by daily existence and to question the obvious without taking things for granted.

Reflection

A way of doing philosophy that involves stepping back to examine life experiences, evaluating underlying assumptions, motives, and choices carefully.

Analysis

A way of doing philosophy that involves breaking down complex ideas, arguments, and moral situations into clear, coherent, logical components.

Zoon Politikon

A Greek concept from Aristotle combining 'zoon' (living being) and 'politikon' (community or society), asserting that human beings are naturally social and flourish through relationships.

Pagkamakatao

A Filipino philosophical concept meaning being truly human by respecting human dignity, showing compassion, helping others, and serving the community.
