Hostility
Also called verbal aggression; expressed through verbal abuse, lack of cooperation, violation of rules, or threatening behavior.
Physical aggression
Behavior involving attacking or injuring another person or destroying property, meant to harm, punish, or force compliance.
Triggering phase
The initial incident that initiates an aggressive response.
Escalation phase
The phase characterized by an increasing loss of control.
Crisis phase
A phase where there is a complete loss of emotional and physical control.
Recovery phase
The phase where an individual begins to regain control after a crisis.
Postcrisis phase
The phase of reconciliation and return to normal functioning after a crisis.
Paranoid delusions
Belief that others are out to get the person, often associated with aggressive behavior.
Auditory hallucinations
Commands heard by the individual to hurt others, linked to aggression in psychiatric conditions.
Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED)
A rare psychiatric diagnosis characterized by discrete episodes of aggressive impulses and disproportionate aggression.
Acting out
An immature defense mechanism where individuals deal with emotional conflicts through verbal or physical aggression.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques
Techniques for anger management that include distraction, communication skills, problem-solving, and reframing.
Medications for aggression
Includes lithium, carbamazepine, atypical antipsychotics, and benzodiazepines used for managing aggression in psychiatric conditions.
Workplace bullying
Verbal abuse, threatening, intimidating, humiliating behaviors, and work interference in a professional setting.
Assertive communication
Using 'I' statements to express feelings related to specific situations, facilitating problem-solving.
