what is the flow chart steps to solving a linear equation

what is a conditional equation
an equation that can be satisfied with some values but not others. most equations we solved are conditional
what is an equation with a contradiction?
an equation that has no solution is called a contradiction. very often, we obtain an unbalanced equation as we attempt to isolate the variable. (eg: 0= -3)
what is a identity equation
an equation that is always true to all values of the variable i.e. no matter what values you substitute, the equation will always be balanced. as such, it is 'pointless' to solve an identity. (eg, 0=0)
what to do with an equation with more than one fraction.
group 'like' terms together. identify the LCM of the denominator. multiply both sides of the equation by the LCM. this will removed all the denominators in a equation while keeping the equation balanced.

when can you cross multiply
when both is only a single algebraic fraction on each side of the equation

what to take note of when changing a number or variable to the other side of the equation.
change of sign and placement (put it on the rightest side)

what is the 4-step algebraic method
