The Manchurian crisis

1931-1932 the japanese army units took control of Chinese Manchuria. The region was valuable to them as a buffer zone against the soviet Union and as a source of raw materials. They installed a pupper state, renamed it Manchukuo, and turned it into a colony. Only Germany and Italy joined Japan in granting diplomatic recognition to this new state
