Homicide
The killing of one human being by another.
Murder
Intentional killing of another person with malice aforethought.
Malice
Defendant’s awareness that he/she had no right to kill but intended to kill anyway.
Felony murder
No intentional kill, but the intention to commit some other felony that resulted in the death of a person.
1st degree murder
Premeditated, deliberate, and intentional killing.
2nd degree murder

Manslaughter
Unlawful killing of another person without malice.
Voluntary manslaughter
Killing committed intentionally without malice, often in the heat of the moment.
Involuntary manslaughter
Causing the death of another unintentionally but recklessly.
Victim precipitation
Suggests victims initiated social interaction that led to homicidal response.
Serial murder
Killing of several victims over an extended period of time.
Mass murder
Killing of multiple victims in one event or in very quick succession.
Sociopaths
People who lack control, disregard social values, and have an intense desire to dominate others.
Simple assault
Assault with little to no injury.
Aggravated assault
Assault that causes serious harm or involves a deadly weapon.
Rape
An act of sexual violence that is severely underreported.
Robbery
Taking of property from a victim by force or threat of violence.
Larceny
Theft or stealing; the prototype of all property offenses.
Motor vehicle theft
Theft involving the unlawful taking of a vehicle; can include carjacking.
Fraud
Acquisition of property through cheating or deception.
Burglary
Unlawful entry into a structure to commit a felony or theft.
Arson
Malicious burning or setting fire to the dwelling of another person.
Fentanyl
A synthetic opioid that is 50x stronger than heroin and can be deadly even in small doses.
